Florida Health Insurance and Cancer Many people ask us if our plans cover cancer. I took me a while to figure out that there are some sub-standard Florida health insurance plans that do not adequately cover this disease. If you have a health insurance plan from a quality company, cancer will be covered the same as any other disease, to the full limits of the plan. If the agent is trying to sell you “optional cancer coverage”, you know that something is not right. However, there are many people who do purchase supplemental insurance for the express purposes of having additional funds available in the event that they are diagnosed with cancer. These funds can be used for expenses that Florida health insurance does not cover. For example: Lost Wages – If you do not have disability coverage, you will be without a paycheck. Lump sum cancer plans can provide much needed funds. Home Recovery – Your Florida health insurance might not cover extended home recovery expenses. Alternative Treatments – Florida health insurance plans will pay for generally accepted cancer treatment protocols. But, your cancer might respond well to something that is still not fully approved by your carrier. The lump sum payout works here as well. Then there are child care expenses, travel expenses, out of town lodging, etc. The National Cancer Institute estimates that 65% of the overall costs for cancer are non-medical expenses. Alternatives Some of you reading this have or will have complete major medical plans. Others have or will have limited benefit plans that will not adequately cover cancer. While still others will not have and cannot obtain a Florida health insurance plan at all. We have three types of plans that you can purchase. They are all very affordable. The first is a lump sum cancer plan. This plan will payout a one time lump sum upon diagnosis of a life threatening cancer. It will pay a maximum of $50,000. You can use the money for anything you wish. There is even an option that will return all or part of your premiums to you if you never use the plan. The second plan type is an expense plan. If you already have a good Florida health insurance plan, the lump sum might work better for you. However, and I know this is not a pleasant subject, you must be certain that you will be able to keep your health insurance even if you are no longer employed. So, this plan could become important for you. The payout with this plan is up to $50,000 a year in medical expenses. Plus, it renews each year. It is not a one time payout. This is up to $50,000 a year in expenses. There is also a $25,000 lump sum option. You can have both at the same time. The third is our critical illness plan. This plan pays out a lump sum of $25,000 on diagnosis of cancer, heart attack, stroke, etc. It is not just for caner. In addition, this plan will pay you $500 a day when you are hospitalized for any reason at all.
