If
you have had Florida health insurance without a break in coverage,
you are entitled to have all your pre-existing conditions covered
and the carrier must give you coverage |
|
FALSE
- Private health insurance does not have to follow the same rules
that group health insurance does. In Florida, as in most states, the
carrier does NOT have cover your pre-existing conditions or even give
you coverage.
However, most will cover your pre-existing conditions if you have
had continuous coverage if they accept you. But, be aware that they
can and often do put permanent exclusion riders on your prior problems. |

Florida
health insurance for individuals and families is less expensive
than group coverage?
TRUE
- Private or family plans are much less expensive than group health
coverage for individuals and families. The main reason is that they
must write the group plan regardless of your health history. This
is not true of non-group coverage. |
3. |
High
deductible plans are almost always better values than low deductibles?
TRUE
- The insurance company does not want you to have a low deductible
so they put artificially high prices on the plans. As you will read
throughout my web site, spending an extra $800 a year to lower your
deductible by $1,000 is just plain foolish. Remember, the
doctor and prescription co-pays have nothing to do with the deductible.
So, you can see a physician or get a prescription without having
to first meet the deductible. |
4. |
Maternity
coverage is available on most health insurance plans?
FALSE
- Maternity coverage is not a part of any private health insurance
plan. On a few plans it is available as an expensive rider. We do
have so that are so what more reasonable so be sure to ask. |
5. |
Florida
health insurance plans are all controlled by the state of Florida?
FALSE
- Many plans have permission to do business in Florida but are controlled
by other states. These are known as association plans.
Association plans can
single out small sub-groups for rate increases and do not have to
comply with Florida's strict, consumer-oriented rules for health
insurance. If at all possible, stay away from association plans. |
6. |
Healthy
individuals really do not need health insurance?
FALSE
- Unless you have a big "S" on your uniform and come from
the planet Krypton, you need to have some type of Florida health
insurance coverage. "I don't need health insurance because
I am healthy" is almost as dumb as "I don't need life
insurance because I am alive."
You cannot get coverage
after you are sick. The quality of care you receive might depend
on whether you have insurance or not. Don't be a fool and at least
get a high deductible, no-frills plan. |
7. |
Buying
Florida health insurance directly from the insurance company will
save me money?
FALSE
- The rates are exactly the same from the carrier or one of 10,000
agents who sell the plan. By law, there can be no difference. The
advantage to a good agent is the ability to look at plans from many
different carriers with the company's bias. |

Florida
Health Savings Account plans (HSA) are for everyone and not just
businesses and rich people?
TRUE
- Anyone can buy a Health Savings Account plan. These plans are
less expensive and with the tax advantages are usually the best
deal around. Its a shame that more people don't ask about them. |
9. |
Online
internet quotes for health insurance will help you find a plan?
FALSE
- The online get-a-quote web sites show you a price without explaining
anything about the plan. You will have no idea what you are really
looking at. Plus, many great deals in health insurance will not
show up on these sites. They are one of the worst consumer tools
around. Talk to an agent. It will be cheaper in the long run. |

Hospitals
have to provide me with service even if I do not have health insurance?
TRUE
- There is a law that says if your life is in danger the hospital
must treat you. But, there is no law that says you get the best
doctors, the more expensive, preferred treatment or that a physician
needs to talk to you until you are on death's door. By then you
might have just enough time left to write your will. Again, do not
be a moron. If you can afford it, get some health insurance. |
