Florida Health Insurance Underwriting – Ulcerative Colitis Part 3 of the Florida Health Insurance Underwriting Series– Florida Health Insurance and Colitis Florida health insurance will look at ulcerative colitis as an automatic decline in almost all instances. I stress the word "ulcerative". There are situations where we can insure someone who has had colitis or ulcerative colits. In other instances, we can use special indemnity plans until they meet the requirements. Generally speaking, if you have had 1. A single episode and do not take any medication and received no treatment for a number of years, we might be able to write a major medical policy. 2. Corrective surgery and have had no treatment or medication for 5 years, we might be able to write a major medical policy. In some instances, they will accept 3 or 4 years. 3. Non-ulcerative colitis, the waiting time can be as little as 2 years. In almost all other instances, we can offer you a special indemnity plan. This plan will cover a limited number of office visits, out-patient procedures (including colonoscopy), prescriptions and hospitalizations. There are some limitations to this plan, but is better than anything else out there. The important thing to remember is that there are health insurance plans you can obtain. It is not hopeless.
